According to the current procedures, the import or export of wildlife on the territory of the Republic is carried out on the basis of special permits issued by the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The customs officers of the republic stopped people trying to smuggle rare species of birds across the customs border without following these procedures.

At a recent operation by the Syrdarya regional customs administration, people trying to sell the falcons from listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan were stopped.

During the operation, a "Kamaz" truck driven by a previously suspected person was stopped at the Syrdarya border checkpoint and inspected. As a result it was revealed that 8 falcons were hidden in a sports bag in the cabin of the truck. In addition to the cruel treatment of birds, the creatures were crammed into the bag in a way that endangered their lives.

On the same day, the operation was continued in Syrdarya district, and the person who were going to bought these birds was also arrested.

The 8 falcons saved during this operation are included in the Red Book of Uzbekistan, published in 2019, and their hunting is prohibited.
Inquiries revealed that the offenders wanted to sell them for 280 million UZS.

At present, the falcons are temporarily kept in the Tashkent Zoo under the constant supervision of specialists.

The situation is being investigated by the customs authorities.
